About Me

I am Dra. Erika Davis, a critical, interdisciplinary researcher, educator, administrator, and community advocate with a focus on Latinx student and family experiences with education as a racialized institution in the United States. I earned my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Florida with a specialization in Critical Studies of Race, Ethnicity, and Culture. I am currently a lecturer in the Marsal Family School of Education at the University of Michigan. I am seeking a tenure-track academic position that will allow me to continue my research and advocacy work with U.S. Latinxs with a critical lens towards educational systems, community empowerment, gentrification, critical geography, and transnational and diaspora studies.

  • Latinx student and family experiences with K-12 and higher education as a racialized institution in the United States, nuanced by race, sex, immigration status, and region

  • Impacts of regional politics and institutional policies, including development and gentrification, on Latinx communities

  • Transnational conceptualizations of race and racialization

  • Creating databases and dashboards to collect and disseminate disaggregated data on underrepresented groups, particularly AfroLatinxs and Indigenous Latinxs

  • Community-based, participatory research and engagement to inform policy
